Snow tomorrow? Also is a major nor'easter on its way for next week?
Once the rain moves out tomorrow morning temperatures will drop. On the backside of this system will be some rain and snow showers. I think that western portion of New Jersey actually have a decent shot at seeing some snow flurries tomorrow. Here's the map.
The weather from Friday all the way through Monday looks gorgeous with above average temperatures and sunny skies.
Monday night a storm system will start to organize itself off the coast of Cape Hatteras North Carolina. There a few possibilities with this storm and they are all possible.
#1 Canadian Model :
The Canadian Model predicts that an area of weak low pressure with plenty of moisture will develop Monday off the coast of North Carolina. It will then head northeast rapidly strengthening as it does so, going from a 1007 millibar low off the coast of Cape Hatteras to a 968 millibar low off the coast of Nova Scotia Wednesday evening. While the storm system will be very strong, it should be pretty far out to sea and I would only expect some rain and wind on Long Island. The main impacts would be for the eastern New England coastline and Nova Scotia.
I think that this is the most likely scenario because it makes the most sense for the environment that it is in. Unusually warm waters will allow for this storm to explode. What will cause it to go mostly out to sea is the lack high pressure to guide it into the coast.
#2 European Model
The European model also predicts that a storm system will develop off the coast of North Carolina and then go out to sea. What the European does differently is that instead of rapidly deepening the storm, the European pushes it out to sea not giving it enough time.
#3 American Model
The American Model predicts that the storm will not go out to sea at all but instead ride up the coast. This would cause heavy rain coverage area wide that could even result in some flooding.
These three potentials are all possible as the storm threat is still pretty far out.
After this storm threat I see another storm threat for next weekend. Its past 10 days out and the models aren't showing anything. However, the time period looks interesting. What interests me most is that any precipitation would probably fall as snow or ice.
