Insane cold this weekend. Then is a slopzird on its way?
The polar vortex combined with a few disturbances is currently moving in bringing a chance of some snow showers tonight into tomorrow morning. There could be a dusting to an inch of accumulation in most places, with up to 2 inches possible on Eastern Long Island.
Saturday and Sunday will be extremely cold. Temperatures Saturday will be in the teens and 20s. Highs Sunday will only get between 8 and 15 degrees. Lows Sunday will be extremely cold getting as low as negative ten in Orange and Sussex County. Wind chills will range from 20 to 30 degrees below.
I think the storm will track just a smidge east to what I predicted yesterday. The biggest threat right now is a possible ice storm in western portions of the coverage area, and coastal impacts. If models continue to trend east, then it could be more of a snow event.
Whether its snow, ice or even heavy rain Tuesday will be a very sloppy day. For more information on timing check out last nights weather discussion
