Thunderstorms started to fire up earlier this afternoon and dropped some very heavy rain in a very short period of time in Staten Island and Brooklyn. Thunderstorms will continue to fire up tonight but should be pretty scattered by tomorrow morning. This will be the first round of rain and I don't expect anybody to get that much rainfall.
When we could see some significant rainfall is when a coastal low will form tomorrow afternoon. This will cause more widespread thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and then a steady rain for the overnight. All in all the whole area should get 1-3 inches of rain with a slight potential for more than three inches on Easter Long Island and the western parts of the coverage area. This is great news as a lot of the area is in a moderate drought.
I am going very conservative with these totals because the models are going conservative. They really don't deepen the low much at all but I think that with the warm waters it could get stronger. If the low does deepen more then some areas could get as much as 5+ inches of rain.
Friday there could be some leftover showers in the morning especially on Long Island. Then the afternoon will be gorgeous but much cooler. I am also watching another potential coastal storm for Sunday into Monday. Here is a look at your five day.
