Some very heavy rain is about to move into the area.
Already in western New Jersey up to an inch of rain has fallen with heavy rain still pouring there. I think that Warren County will really be the bulls eye with at least 3 inches of rain. Here are the updated rain totals.
In the purple 3-5+ inches or rain.
In the red 2-5+ inches of rain
In the orange 2-4+ inches of rain.
In the yellow 1-3 inches of rain.
In the green around an inch of rain.
The reason for all this rain is that a cold front that is loaded with moisture is going to slow down as it nears the coast because of an upper level low. The rain will continue to move east and will probably be in NYC by midnight. Tomorrow's morning rush could be quite messy with flooded roads all around the coverage area. By 10 AM the rain should be out of NYC and by noon it should be completely out of the area.
The fact that NWS hasn't issued a flash flood watch for northeast NJ and the southern Hudson Valley makes no sense to me. Areas that flooded yesterday will flood again tomorrow morning and some areas that didn't flood yesterday will flood tomorrow anyway.
