Full Afternoon Update

2/7/2015

Snow will move in tomorrow morning in the northern areas. It will just be snow showers, so I do not expect any big accumulations. During the afternoon, precipitation will move into all areas. Tempertures will be above freezing in many areas tomorrow, therefore Long Island, New York City, southern Fairfield and everywhere in New Jersey excluding far northern and far western sections, will start out as a mix of snow and rain. Any areas that mix with rain will change back to snow in the late afternoon, and then back, to a mix during the evening hours. North of route 80 snow mixing with sleet and freezing rain at times will continue all night. South of route 80 a mix of rain, sleet and freezing rain will continue into the morning. Early Monday morning as precipitation picks up in intensity the rain/snow line will gradually move south. By Monday afternoon, I think everybody will be getting into some snow but by that time it will be light. Monday night the snow will taper off. The only area that could see some snow Tuesday is eastern Long Island during the early morning.

Myy updated snow and ice maps are up on the winter weather page. This storm is very difficult to forecast, so my forecast will most likely need to be tweaked tomorrow morning. There are a couple other chances for snow before getting extremely cold as the polar vortex, pays us a visit for Valentines Day. Low tempertures will likely be below zero in many areas.
