Heat Wave Imminent

Well, we are currently having a classic heat wave. Heat indices today reached into the 100s and in many areas, it'll be even hotter tomorrow.

Below is a look at some of the heat alerts that are up. The only county with an excessive heat warning in the coverage area is Camden County. However, this may change as an excessive heat watch has been issued for several counties in New Jersey. Heat advisories are up tomorrow in NYC and some of northeastern New Jersey. I expect NWS New York to put up an excessive heat watch for NYC tomorrow for Monday, as this looks to be the hottest day.

The thunderstorm/severe threat completely busted today, with all thunderstorm activity occurring well to the northeast of the coverage area. We may see a few afternoon (non-severe) thunderstorms tomorrow, with the highest chance of a thunderstorm once again, occurring the farther northeast you go.

The heat should gradually break throughout next week. With no major rain events, the drought should worsen and possibly expand back into areas that aren't in a drought. Below is a look at the latest drought monitor in the northeast.
