A hurricane in January? Also watching some possible snow threats...
A hybrid storm that is partially tropical is currently developing off the east coast. I don't expect this storm to impact us at all. Its just interesting that we could have a tropical storm or even a hurricane in January.
Tropical activity in January has happened before. In 1955 hurricane Alice hit the east Caribbean on January 3rd.
Expect a cold morning tomorrow. but a warmer than normal afternoon with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.
Saturday expect some sleet and rain showers with highs in the 30s for our northern counties. It'll be very different in central New Jersey and Long Island where there will be rain showers and highs in the 40s and 50s!
Sunday will be a washout with rain moving in very early Sunday morning and lasting until early Monday morning. The rain may become heavy around lunch time Sunday with as much as three inches of rain possible.
A cold front will pass through Monday; expect temperatures in the 20s and 30s.
It'll get into the 30s and 40s Tuesday.
Wednesday we have to watch as we may see some winter weather. Tuesday night a clipper will move from Michigan down to Delmarva. In the teal outlined area some light snow accumulations of an inch or two is possible Tuesday night.
Early Wednesday morning the storm will transfer its energy off the Delmarva coast and that new storm will then turn northeast. The storm will strengthen quickly but will also move very quickly. Therefore, I do not expect a long lasting winter storm anywhere on the East Coast. My current thinking is that there will be a quick couple inches in eastern New England Wednesday with less farther west.
In the coverage area there could also be some accumulations. Since the storm will be so far east and will move rather quickly I don't expect anybody getting more then three inches. I will start to issue snow maps as we get closer the storm.
There will be another storm threat around the 18th that I am watching. This threat is very far out and I'm going to wait a few days before I get too specific.
Expect plenty more storm threats throughout the rest of the month and into February. Tomorrow I may have a more technical discussion about the changing pattern.
