Below is the latest information on hurricane Joaquin and the latest satellite image.
5:00 PM EDT Wed Sep 30
Location: 24.3°N 73.1°W
Moving: SW at 8 mph
Min pressure: 967 mb
Max sustained: 85 mph
Joaquin has sped up a bit and an eye is trying to develop. He should continue to strengthen overnight and will probably reach category 2 strength by 5 AM tomorrow.
Right now most of the models take Joaquin into North Carolina. I think that this is just some model flip-flop and as the storm continues to strengthen they will move back north. The European model continues to take Joaquin out to sea. While some forecasters are latching onto this idea I'm not. Below is my latest cone.
As you can see I think that Joaquin will make landfall somewhere as a category 2 hurricane. I think that a Delmarva landfall is most likely but anywhere in the cone is possible. If this storm does make landfall into Delmarva or the Jersey shore the destruction will be catastrophic and probably worse than hurricane Sandy.
Here is the latest threat level forecast.
