Already snow, rain and ice has begun to move into the area.
A major nor'easter is currently in the process of forming. The storm will really get its act together tonight off of the Delmar a coast. Next the storm will head northeast, undergo a process called "bombogenesis". These storms are usually very powerful. Snow will movr into Philly and New York overnight. DC and Baltimore will be primarily rain but, they will get into some snow. Philly and NYC will get into some more snow and continuously Boston is the tricky city. Currently I am thinking 1-3 inches for Philly and 2-4 for NYC and Boston. For my full snow map check out the winter weather tab.
There are currently winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings in place. One of the hardest place to forecast for so far has been northeastern New Jersey. This area could hit the jackpot with snow, but because it will likely mix with rain that will bring down snow totals. However, if dynamic cooling happens and it is cold enough for snow this area could get up to 10 inches. It is currently unlikely but if this were to happen many of these winter weather advisories could turn to warnings.
QUICKCAST FOR CITIES!!!!
DC- Rain moves in tonight. Mixes with snow tomorrow. Likely ending as snow in the early afternoon. Accumulations of a coating to 1 inch.
Baltimore- Snow moves in at 7PM. Snow falls heavy at time until midnight and then changes to rain. Rain then changes to a brief period of snow at noon before ending in the early afternoon. Accumulations of 1-3 inches.
Philadelphia- Snow begins around 9PM. The snow falls heavily at times and then switches to rain and freezing rain around 3 AM. Rain persists until late morning and then switches to a brief period of snow. End snow accumulations of 1-3 inches and up to 1/10 of an inch of ice.
New York- Snow begins around midnight. The snow could fall heavily at times during the predawn hours. The snow then switches to rain before switching back to snow in the afternoon. The storm will be out of New York by 5 PM. End snow accumulations of 2-4 inches and up to 1/10 of an inch of ice.
Boston- Snow begins at 3 AM tonight and then switches to rain by 7. The rain then turns back to snow at around 3 PM and falls heavily at times until 7 PM. The storm is then out of the area by around 10 PM. End snow accumulations of 2-4 inches. This city is the wildcard, so the potential exists for more snow. Strong winds and minor coastal flooding is also likely.
Be sure to check out the winter weather page for my snow map. This storm is going to pack a punch, so don't try to travel if heavy snow is falling. As always, your best bet is to stay home and stay safe!
