Rain is moving into the area. This rain will turn heavy tonight and will continue into tomorrow. By Thursday night we should be left with 1-3 inches of rain with localized areas getting more than 3 inches. Thursday will be another showery day and then Friday through Tuesday is when we could be effected by Joaquin.
Overnight tonight I think that Joaquin is going to turn into a hurricane and develop an eye. That may seem like a lot for less than 12 hours but Joaquin is undergoing rapid intensification right now. Below is the latest rainbow image. There are currently some very high cloud tops over the center of Joaquin which is a sign that the storm is doing well.
I think that overnight tonight this thing is really going to explode. Just over the past six hours I have seen this thing become significantly better organized. I do think we will wake up to a hurricane tomorrow morning.
Finally here is the cone.
Yes, I do think that a hurricane will make landfall in the United States. I think that it could make landfall anywhere from North Carolina to Cape Cod. Over the next couple days we should be able to pinpoint the exact track of Joaquin. The latest modeling does suggest more of a North Carolina/Delmarva landfall, but the models have been all over the place so I am not jumping to any conclusions.
Only time will tell where Joaquin is headed.
Be sure to follow my twitter for up to the minute updates on Joaquin and the heavy rain that is about to impact us.
