Storm Watch

The coastal storm that is going to hit tommorow has shifted west. Instead of tracking through Cape Cod the storm will track through Long Island. Precipitation will start tommorow morning as rain on Delmarva and snow showers in western PA and western NY from a clipper system. By the afternoon heavy rain will have moved into the NYC area. Originally, I expected that western Maine would get the bullseye of snow but because of the track change most of Maine should expect a mainly heavy rain event. On the other hand Vermont and far northern New York state will get the bullseye of snow it some areas getting over a foot. My final call snowfall map will be out today but for now check out the winter weather page.

I am concerned about freezing rain with this system. The reason for that is because of the very cold surfaces. It does not matter if the air temperature is above freezing, if rain is falling and the ground is frozen then the rain will turn to ice. Monday morning could be an icy commute for many so be careful driving!

I will have more details on the Wednesday storm system out soon. There is still a lot of model disagreement so don'the ask me for any snow totals or anything like that.
