The hurricane season has really escalated...
Right now in the Atlantic there are 4 areas of interest. There is hurricane Danny, which became a category 3 hurricane today. Then there's a area off of Bermuda that has a 60% chance of development. I don't expect tank type of landfall with this system but it could cause some showers for Sunday into Tuesday. There two other areas of interest off the coast of Africa these will probably have a similar track to Danny if they develop.
Unexpectedly Danny became a category 3 hurricane at 2 PM with winds at 115 miles per hour. Here is the latest cone from the NHC.
I think that this cone is okay but I would make some changes. First off, despite wind shear and Danny being a very small hurricane it is going to take quite a bit of wind shear to weaken a cat 3 hurricane to a tropical storm. So if Danny does hit the lesser Antilles I expect him to be at least a category one hurricane.
The other thing I think is wrong with the cone is that it's too far south. Right now I am thinking that Danny skim the northern lesser Antilles and glide just north of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. The model trend has been farther north. If Danny survives long enough to get to the Bahamas it could strengthen back to a hurricane since there is less dry air and low wind shear there.
Some media outlets have been telling people that there is no chance that Danny will affect the US but that isn’t true. While yes any type of landfall in American wouldn’t be for another 10 days or so that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. All I can say is that you should be paying attention to the weather if you live on the east coast because you never know.
